What is Padrón (empadronamiento, Spain)?

Registration on your local town-hall census in Spain, proving where you live and unlocking healthcare, school enrolment and many administrative steps.

The certificado de empadronamiento is issued by your municipality when you register your address. It is used to prove residence for healthcare registration, school places, residency renewals and more.

Registering is generally free and quick, usually needing your passport/NIE and proof of address such as a rental contract or utility bill.
